CLIENT: McArthur River Mine (NT)
PROJECT: Ball Mill Liners Installation

Scope:

  • The scope of work included the installation of a complete lining system in a 22’ x 40 6’ Ball Mill. This was part of the construction project for the machine and associated plant.

Challenges:

  • Given that it was a new installation, there was no charge in place inside the mill to effectively work off. This meant the liner positioning unit on the reline machine could not be used to build the mill. Also, some access infrastructure around the mill wasn’t complete.

Achievements:

  • The installation was accomplished by lowering liners into the bottom section of the mill using a liner handler  and a pneumatic hoist hung from the hook. A scaffold platform was constructed under the mill to enable access to the bolts on the outside so that the washers and nuts could be fitted. A documented quality system was implemented for the project.
